Step-by-step
- Drive 10 minutes to warm the oil. Park level. Switch off. Wait 5 min.
- Jack the front, set on jack stands.
- Remove oil filler cap to vent the system.
- Locate drain plug — 14 mm hex, centred on oil pan. Position pan offset 5 cm rearward.
- Loosen drain plug counter-clockwise. Pull sideways quickly to avoid splash.
- Drain 10-15 minutes.
- Top of engine: filter is top-mounted cartridge on front-driver's side.
- Remove filter cap with 27 mm cup wrench.
- Discard old element. Wipe housing. Inspect O-ring, replace if damaged.
- Fit new cartridge. Lubricate O-ring with clean oil.
- Reinstall filter cap. Torque to 25 Nm.
- Underneath: replace crush washer. Reinstall drain plug. Torque to 35 Nm.
- Wipe down.
- Add 4.0 L new oil. Wait 2 minutes.
- Check dipstick. Top up in 100 ml increments to MAX.
- Start engine. Idle 60 seconds. Watch for leaks.
- Switch off, wait 5 min, recheck dipstick.
- Reset service interval: Settings → Vehicle → Service → Reset Oil Service.
- Dispose of old oil and filter properly.
Common mistakes
- Using 5W-30 in a car that calls for 0W-20.
- Re-using the crush washer.
- Over-torquing the filter cap (>35 Nm crushes the O-ring).
- Skipping in-car service reset.
- Not pre-lubricating the new filter O-ring.
- Mixing brands of oil partway through fill.
- Not warming the engine before draining.
