Step-by-step

1. Drive 10 minutes to warm the oil. Park level. Switch off. Wait 5 min.
2. Jack the front, set on jack stands.
3. Remove oil filler cap to vent the system.
4. Locate drain plug — 14 mm hex, centred on oil pan. Position pan offset 5 cm rearward.
5. Loosen drain plug counter-clockwise. Pull sideways quickly to avoid splash.
6. Drain 10-15 minutes.
7. Top of engine: filter is top-mounted cartridge on front-driver's side.
8. Remove filter cap with 27 mm cup wrench.
9. Discard old element. Wipe housing. Inspect O-ring, replace if damaged.
10. Fit new cartridge. Lubricate O-ring with clean oil.
11. Reinstall filter cap. Torque to 25 Nm.
12. Underneath: replace crush washer. Reinstall drain plug. Torque to 35 Nm.
13. Wipe down.
14. Add 4.0 L new oil. Wait 2 minutes.
15. Check dipstick. Top up in 100 ml increments to MAX.
16. Start engine. Idle 60 seconds. Watch for leaks.
17. Switch off, wait 5 min, recheck dipstick.
18. Reset service interval: Settings → Vehicle → Service → Reset Oil Service.
19. Dispose of old oil and filter properly.

Common mistakes

1. Using 5W-30 in a car that calls for 0W-20.
2. Re-using the crush washer.
3. Over-torquing the filter cap (>35 Nm crushes the O-ring).
4. Skipping in-car service reset.
5. Not pre-lubricating the new filter O-ring.

7. Not warming the engine before draining.
